Placing people with convictions into meaningful employment

HMS LEGACY

Legacy specialises in placing focused and talented individuals into meaningful employment.

The only condition is that they have a previous conviction and a desire to change.

Legacy opens its services to all individuals who are affected by a criminal record and the stigma and barriers that are associated with it.

We work hand in hand with employers, agencies and institutions to marry our candidates with appropriate and meaningful work opportunities.

Our founders are all convicted criminals with lived experience of the prison system.

This enables us to relate to the personal situations of all our candidates and provide a holistic mentoring program as they embark upon their path of change.

Reducing unemployment & reoffending rates

WHY LEGACY IS ESSENTIAL

Our mission doesn’t just enhance the businesses we
serve or the talented individuals we help find meaningful employment for. It improves society as a whole through reducing unemployment and reoffending rates.

This will clearly assist the individuals with barriers to employment, their families, the companies we work with and the local communities they serve.

Over 80% of employers of ex-offenders have positively rated their reliability, motivation, attendance and performance.

*UK Government statistics

Everyone stands to gain from the

Holistic Meaningful Solutions that Legacy seeks to provide.

1 IN 4
ADULTS IN THE UK HAVE A
CRIMINAL CONVICTION

1 IN 3
PRISON LEAVERS REOFFEND WITHIN 12 MONTHS

The number one contributing factor to this is lack of support on release including the opportunity of meaningful employment. HMS Legacy seeks to change the way people view ex-offenders, lower recidivism and boost the British economy through a new, diverse and untapped work force.

CREATING A LASTING LEGACY

Legacy’s board have a short-medium term strategy as well as our plan over the coming five years.
We will pilot our services within the South East; focusing on Kent, Surrey and Sussex as well as venturing into London.
Having discussed our plans with the management of HM Prison and Probation Service we are approved providers of work placements to serving prisoners (in open conditions) and ex-offenders in the community.
We use skills and experience to onboard companies and businesses who are open to hiring from this talented and largely untapped candidate pool.
Time taken piloting our services has given us valuable insight into vital processes and systems; allowing us to hone and perfect our offerings.
Following this, Legacy will seek organically expand to provide our service nationally to both male and female offenders.

We will also work alongside closed condition estates, especially within the resettlement period, as prisoners get closer to release.
Legacy will work as a liaison between employers, prison leavers and their probation manager to seek suitable and meaningful employment opportunities.

We will use an ever-increasing pool of data from our work to identify training and employability needs across the UK. We will work in tandem with institutions and third parties to provide this training to increase the number of viable candidates for our positions. This “upskilling” is vital, not just for our success in finding people jobs, but for creating a sustainable and long-term career for as many individuals as possible.

Training individuals & businesses, building meaningful opportunities

WHAT MAKES LEGACY DIFFERENT?

Training Individuals and Businesses to Build Meaningful Opportunities

Unlike most “businesses” we actively welcome competitors as we believe we are contributing to a greater good. However, there are some distinct differences in what we offer compared to others.

First Class Mentoring Programme

As well as the lived experience offering that Legacy’s founders provide, we will work with industry-specific career driven champions (our mentors) who will guide and direct our placed candidates not just into a job but ideally a longer career path. These leaders may be from companies we already work with or simply professional and caring individuals who want to use their skills and experience to contribute to change.

We also provide post placement support to our candidates; giving peace of mind to all parties during the crucial 'bedding in' period.

Adventures through Ventures

We are committed to using a substantial portion of our profits to invest back into business ventures cultivated by people who have had contact with our programme.

We will spotlight the best ideas for new business and provide a full scope of mentoring through startup stage and beyond.

This also offers great opportunities for exposure via media campaigns for our purpose and cause. Putting a positive focus on ex-offenders and the barriers they face, as they embark on a business venture of their own.
